Solar Spot Lights
The advantages of solar lighting are:
- They are inexpensive to operate and
- They are easy to install.
There are several different types of outdoor solar lights available including solar path lights, hanging solar lights, and solar spot lights. Spot lights are great for lighting up dock areas, pathways, and decorative items like gardens and statuettes. They can be installed anywhere that gets adequate sunshine during the day.
Spotlights are usually brighter than other types of solar lights. For example, a solar path light needs only a dim illumination to mark out a pathway. Similarly, hanging solar lights don't need to be very bright.
Spotlights, on the other hand, need to light up a fairly large area and make it easy to see certain objects. Specially designed LED lights can provide the necessary brightness for solar spotlights and there are several manufacturers who make this type of lighting. But of course the stronger the light the higher the power consumption. That means larger batteries and lager batteries require larger solar panels. Lager or more efficient, and the latter will usually mean more expensive.
In order to get the necessary power for the spotlights, they need to be installed in an area that receives plenty of sunshine during the day. There are solar collectors on the spot site and the collectors need to be positioned so that they get the maximum exposure to sunshine.
The solar collectors collect the power which is stored in rechargeable batteries. The most common type of batteries for solar lights are NiCad batteries which can provide up to 12 hours of lighting depending on the amount of sunlight he received during the day.
Spotlights can be permanently installed on a deck in or dock, or they can be simply pushed into the ground wherever you need some accent lighting. Be careful though -- if the lights are easy to push into the ground they are just as easy to pull out. Several solar lights owners have reported losing their lights to neighborhood vandals.
Any homeowner will appreciate the maintenance free aspect of solar lights. Just install them and forget them! Keep them out of reach of vandals, though, or they may prove to be more of a headache that a convenience.
